“A moving Holocaust story and a fascinating account about the decade long existence of Constella Music as it is now to be known.”

Composer, conductor and founder of Constella ten years ago Leo Gayer celebrated its tenth anniversary by holding a concert at which he unveiled some of the music that was played by the orchestras of Auschwitz. His research had discovered fragments of scores and he created a short piece from them but the plan is by 2025 to have a full length stage production which will premiere in London and then go on tour across the UK and Europe. The evening displayed the talents of his company of dancers and musicians to effect although Mr Gayer needs to beef up his voice work if he is to compere events – the singers were crystal clear, especially the baritone Simon Wallfisch, who sang in Blackbird, a piece created from the music of Auschwitz in memory of the Holocaust historian Sir Martin Gilbert. His grandmother is Holocaust survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch who also helped Geyer with his research.Geyer certainly has a story to tell.

Constella has, among other things over the decade, sent musicians round some 1500 care homes round the UK as part of its commitment to social good through the arts as well as creating local events in different parts of the country. The programme revealed it has a lot to offer.
