“Inspiring, moving, unmissable.”
Life affirming, funny and spellbinding, Michael Rosen, poet, former Children's laureate and Professor of Children's literature at Goldsmith's College at 79 is on top form telling two stories, one about grief and the death of his son aged 18, the other about being a victim of Covid. Should you be anywhere near the Royal Theatre, Northampton on 6 November, the Victoria Theatre, Halifax on 26 November, Oxford Playhouse on 9 January, Edinburgh Lyceum on 29 January, Theatre Clwyd on 8 February and Liverpool Playhouse on 28 April then do not fail to attend. He really is something special, not an actor delivering a monologue as or about somebody else, but a man talking about his own life, its sadnesses and its victories. Seated in the middle of the stage he holds a bundle of papers which he consults as he tells his stories. The first, The Death of Eddie, is about how his son died aged 18 from meningitis and how he was affected by the mourning process, the Second, Many Kinds of Love, is about the 48 days ge spent in intensive care placed in an induced coma after ghe contracted Covid, He started this tour at the Old Vic on a dank Sunday afternoon and held his audience entranced.
