“A Remembrance Sunday.”

The last night can sometimes be better than the first night and it is undeniable that this celebration of Punk Rock and New Wave narrated by Kevin Kennedy concluded its run of out of town dates with a full blast, splendid appearance for one night only in the Dominion Theatre. It was a night for nostalgia with an audience well past its youth and sometimes even past middle age reliving the songs of yesteryear. To give the show some shape Kennedy narrated it recalling some of the highlights as Punk moved to New Wave but it hardly mattered as everyone knew most of it anyway having lived through the eras. Songs made familiar by Blondie, Ian Drury, The Sex Pistols, The Police, Joy Division, Sioyxsie, The Stranglers and more were performed ending with everyone destroying that most lachrymose of ballads - My Way - while people danced in the aisles and those who weren't dancing stood in their seats swaying. It was all very loud as one would expect. It may not be the greatest show on earth but it could well be the loudest so should it be revived ear plugs might be an idea but are not essential. There are good nights out and this was one. Given when it took place it also lent a whole new meaning to remembrance Sunday.
